MORE than 1,000 people have taken part in a consultation on the future of Staffordshire's libraries.

Staffordshire County Council wants to offload 24 smaller libraries to community groups as part of plans to save £1.3 million.

The authority has launched a 12-week consultation on the proposals, including a series of drop-in events.

Councillor Mike Lawrence, cabinet member for communities, said: "The consultation has been extremely encouraging and people really care about libraries."
