CHECKLEY moved two places and 30 points clear of the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire Premier League relegation zone with a crucial one-wicket win against fellow strugglers Wood Lane.
Checkley, set 168 to win, were handed a decent platform by Nick Hunt and Michael Allen, who made 48 and 31 respectively.
But Liam Hassett's 4-31 dragged Wood Lane back into contention before Ben Smith made a late 26 to help the home side over the line in the final over.
Wood Lane, who are now 21 points off safety, had earlier totalled 167-9.
Tim Maxfield (39) and Danny Brierley (20) were the principal contributors to their tally, while Iftikhar Asghar's 4-17 kept a tight rein on proceedings.
Checkley are up to ninth, with Longton having slipped below them, while rock-bottom Burslem finally broke their duck this season at the 18th time of asking with a four-wicket victory over Porthill Park.
