A 21-YEAR-OLD is following in his grandfather's footsteps as he prepares to cycle to the highest mountain in Wales and then climb to the top.
David Hill, of Sunnyside Road, Uttoxeter, will start his mammoth ride from the town to Snowdon on August 28 to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
To complete the challenge he will cover 224 miles in three days as he repeats a challenge his grandfather undertook back in the 1930s.
Mr Hill said: "The route I will be following during these three days will be similar to the route my granddad took on his bike around the same age as me back in the 1930s.
"On the first day, I will be setting off from my granddad's home town of Uttoxeter by bicycle and hope to arrive at a B&B near the bottom of Snowdon later that evening.
"During the second day, I will trek up the mountain which is 1,085 metres high. For those who are interested I will be uploading photos throughout this journey to my Instagram stream (http://instagram.com/dave_490).
"On the last day, I will be cycling back to Uttoxeter via the same route.
"I would especially like to thank my nan, close relatives and the Webster family for all of their support and encouragement they have given me whilst organising this event."
Mr Hill, who has just finished a three-year course in computer game modelling and animation at the University of Derby, is no stranger to taking on adventurous trips as he has also climbed Mont Blanc, walked along the Haute Route (fromFrance to Switzerland) and completed his bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.
He said: "I have always been a cyclist and enjoyed going out on my mountain bike. I have been training by cycling between Derby and Uttoxeter.
"I also do a lot of biking on-road and off-road and I love to travel and explore new places.
"This is quite a big thing for me as I have never done anything like this before. I am just looking forward to actually doing it now as I have done big rides before but not on this scale.
"I would ask everyone to please donate whatever they can as this is a great charity."
