GARETH Morgan and Owen Barron led the way for Uttoxeter Road Runners at the annual JCB Lakeside 5 mile road race last Thursday.
The race, which started at the JCB headquarters in Rocester and attracted more than 300 runners this year, was won by top athlete Ben Gamble, of Tipton Harriers, in 25mins 38secs.
Morgan was just inside the top 20 in a time of 31:38, and although Barron was two places further back (22nd in 32:17), he was the first Vet 50 home.
Tim Melville (26th, 32:42) was the third road runner back, followed by Geoff Astley (69th, 35:45).
Charlotte Ford was the first URR lady back, 84th in 36:55, a couple of minutes ahead of Ady Woodall (107th, 38:21), Lorna Astley (116th, 39:00) and John Stone (124th, 39:28).
The Road Runners' field was completed by Brian Mackey (153rd, 41:44), Helen Hastilow (160th, 42:33), Emma Baggaley-Clay (188th, 44:19), Zoe Dawes (205th, 45:19), Lisa Lancaster (231st, 48:35), Sarah Jones (237th, 49:09), Daniel Carter (248th, 50:35), Elizabeth Goodwin (290th, 56:44) and Linda Macdiarm (302nd, 1:01:34).
JCB Athletics Club sent 33 athletes, with Joseph Spruce the best of the bunch, finishing 16th in 31:07, just ahead of Robert Swift (34th in 33:13).
Their top lady was Carolyn Gilligan, who was 79th in 36:32.
