ONE of Uttoxeter's most popular bands is taking to the stage at the town's racecourse.

Radio Mary, who play a mixture of pop, rock and folk, with a line-up consisting of traditional instruments, will perform at the Wood Lane venue after the races on Monday from 9pm.

Front man Kev Hand said: "We were really pleased to be asked to play there.

"Its always a great night, and I reckon the atmosphere will be amazing.

"In the past we've enjoyed playing at The Grand National and The Cheltenham Gold Cup, so playing at a race meeting in our own town should be a corker."

Fans of the band can get reduced price tickets by calling 01889 562561 and quoting 'Radio Mary'.

The cheaper tickets cost only £10, as opposed to the normal price of £22.

Tonight, Radio Mary will warm up for the racecourse gig by performing an acoustic set at the Red Lion, in Rocester.

Kev said: "We're playing a fairly acoustic set ,with Rosy Brownhill sitting in on percussion, and Chris Salt stepping in on bass guitar,

"Weather permitting, we'll be setting up outside in the courtyard, so there's plenty of room for anyone fancying a night of live music and a few bevvies."

Anyone going to the Radio Mary gig will enjoy a mix of their latest songs and some familiar versions of songs from some of their own favourite artists, with a few twists to keep the audience on their toes.

The band have become staples of the Acoustic Festival of Great Britain at Uttoxeter Racecourse and have become regular performers at the major events in the racing calendar.

Radio Mary are fresh from playing a set at Bradfest last weekend.

They wowed the audience at a packed crowd at Bradley House late on Saturday evening.

They were joined by rockers the Screamin' Eagles, blues masters the Vice Bishops and singer-songwriter Jason Callear.
