THE latest in the Dove Valley Angling Association’s annual series of matches was fished on the club’s premier water at Aldermoor.
Aldermoor Pool is located between Marston Montgomery and Doveridge, and is a roughly rectangular pool of approximately 2.5 acres with an island at one end, and is well stocked with silver fish and carp.
The carp were generally in the 2lbs-5lbs range, with a few larger fish up to 10lbs being the main target for the match anglers.
In warm, overcast, and breezy weather – pretty much ideal conditions – 12 anglers fished the match, so there was plenty of room, and everything was set for bumper weights.
Unfortunately, the fish did not agree and the winning weights were well down on the average.
First place went to top angler Nick Smith from unfancied peg 14 on the dam end with 44lbs 1oz.
Second was Mark Colclough (40lbs 4oz) and third Chris Allen (40lbs), who fished prolific pegs four and 11 respectively.
Colclough managed to best Allen thanks to two small perch to go with the carp.
