Traffic main concern of Bramshall residents

'SOMETHING still needs to be done to solve the problem of traffic' a resident said after the first phase of plans for 750 houses in Uttoxeter was submitted.

Jason Ainsworth, representing the residents of Tunnicliffe Way, said although he was pleased with the appearance of the houses planned on land west of Uttoxeter, the main traffic concern is still there.

He spoke after St Modwen Homes submitted a detailed planning application to East Staffordshire Borough Council for 58 new homes to be built on land off Bramshall Road.

An outline application has previously been approved to create up to 750 houses on the site, with open space, a new first school, small retail centre, sports and recreational facilities and 10 hectares of employment space.

Mr Ainsworth said: "It is great what St Modwen is saying about looking at different styles of houses in keeping with a nice rural area and pleasing to hear that they are look at maintaining some open space.

"My concern is, as is that of my fellow residents, is there still has not been any movement on solving the problem of increased traffic going through Bramshall and then continuing into the town, going down some very narrow roads towards the new Asda.

"St Modwen needs to take into consideration the residents' concerns into how they can prevent the new road being used as a short cut or rat run between Bramshall Road and the A50. They need to look at what traffic calming measures they can put in place."

It was revealed last week by the regeneration specialist that the proposed development will be split into three distinctive character areas including rural, frontage and suburban when it is complete.

Robin Smith, technical director at St Modwen Homes, said: "We've worked closely with our architects, RG&P, to ensure all the proposed homes are sympathetic to the local area. Inspiration has been taken from nearby farmhouses to ensure the properties reflect the surrounding countryside whilst adding some contemporary touches such as a mix of materials, full height glazing and balconies."

The spokesman said there will be a mixture of materials used for the exterior of the homes, including render, timber and brick. In keeping with characteristics typical of St Modwen, all the properties will be designed with large windows, particularly the larger detached homes, some of which have full height glazing to the centre of the house.

Each property will have high ceilings, spacious rooms and high quality fixtures.
