DETAILS of a family fun day that attracts hundreds of people to Uttoxeter every year have been announced.

A falconry display will be among the highlights of this year’s Lark in the Park set to take place in Bramshall Road Park on Saturday, August 23.

All of the entertainment and most of the rides are free at the event, which is run by Uttoxeter Lions Club with funding from East Staffordshire Borough Council.

John Fitchett, the president of Uttoxeter Lions Club, said: “It’s always been our idea to offer great value for the public money spent at the Lark in the Park, and to provide quality family entertainment.

“It’s free but that doesn’t mean people will put up with anything.”

The Falconry School, from Gloucester, pride themselves on flying peregrines – officially the world’s fastest creature.

They are capable of 200 mph in a dive.

They will be flying in the arena during the afternoon.

The arena entertainment also includes the Uttoxeter Town Band, the locally-based World Fusion Dance troupe, and a comedy magic act, Professor Shell.

The dancers will be demonstrating their Gypsy Tribal Belly Dance, which mixes traditional and modern techniques.

Among the free children’s rides are bungee trampolines, roundabouts, donkey rides, a rodeo ride, jousting and a ferris wheel.

There will be other fairground entertainment, sideshows, hot and cold food – including burger and ice cream vans - and charity stalls.

There will also be a children’s disco with audience participation and spot prizes between the main arena events.

Lions Club members have been around the town selling tickets for the duck race on the brook at the bottom of the field which ends the afternoon.

Tickets for ducks will also be on sale during the event with £100 first prize.
