A UTTOXETER artist has illustrated a children's fiction book in collaboration with a primary school teacher.

The pictures in the unique PenguinPig book were made by Amy Bradley who works from her studio above Starphoto in High Street.

PenguinPig tells the story of a little girl who reads about the cute little character PenguinPig on the internet and decides that she must go out and find one.

Not telling her far-too-busy parents, she follows the instructions from the website and sets about in search of this delightful creature. But there is a twist to the tale, as the adorable penguinpig is far from what she hoped.

The book is aimed at children aged between five and seven years of age and sends out an important message to both children and their parents about safety on the internet – an important topic, with children as young as three now accessing the internet on a daily basis.

Ms Bradley will now be hosting an illustration workshop for children at Uttoxeter Library from 2pm on August 20, where youngsters will have the opportunity to draw, ask questions of Amy and author Stuart and take photogaphs.

Ms Bradley, said: "I loved the story from the moment I read it and I knew I'd have so much fun bringing PenguinPig and the characters to life. It's rewarding seeing the response from children and parents when they read the book."

Publishers of the book, Mathom House Publishing said: "We wanted to publish PenguinPig because it's funny and powerfully instructive.

"It ought to be on every parent's book shelf and be mandatory bedtime reading – children will like it too."

Stuart Spendlow decided to write the story after his own frustrations in trying to find a quality fiction book for young children around the topic of e-safety.

More information on how to obtain a copy is online at www.penguinpig.co.uk

Anyone wishing to book their child a place on the workshop can phone 01889 256371.
