ADAM Peaty broke the Commonwealth Games record in the fifth heat of the men's 100m breastroke event in Glasgow this morning.

The 19-year-old finished in a time of 59.47 and was the only man to go under one minute in the five heats as he qualified first.

The Uttoxeter swimmer finished in front of Ross Murdoch (1:00:63), who won yesterday's 200m breastroke gold, the event in which Peaty finished fourth.

Peaty will now swim in the semi-finals tonight, with the final scheduled for Saturday evening.
