WITH the tax credits renewal deadline fast approaching, HM Revenue and Customs has revealed the top excuses for people not renewing claims.
With the deadline for renewals on Thursday, July 31, among the reasons given for missing the deadline are 'I didn't need the money because I'd met a rich bloke, but he dumped me', 'the form was locked in the boot of my car and then my car caught fire', 'I've been in hospital but am feeling much better now', 'my baby used the paperwork as a colouring book' and 'I booked the time for a holiday and forgot'.
Claimants have until the deadline to renew, or their payments might end.
Last year more than 650,000 people failed to renew on time. This year claimants can renew online at gov.uk, as well as being able to renew by post and phone.
HMRC asks all claimants to check the accuracy of the information in their pack and to tell them about changes to circumstances.
