Crisp firm lands major supermarket contract

A UTTOXETER crisp manufacturer is celebrating after winning a contract to supply its products to supermarket giant Tesco.

News - glennans directorsGlennans, in Dovefields Industrial Estate, has launched its range of vegetable crisps in Tesco stores across the Midlands.

This followed a successful trial at the local store and after much consumer demand the range was launched regionally.

The pan fried crisps are now available at 90 stores across the East Midlands, West Midlands and some stores in the North West.

Glennans brand manager Richard Thompson said: “The Tesco local team have been really supportive and encouraging.

“It is nice to work with people that care about local producers and want their products to do well.”

Tesco’s regional buyer Enfys Fox said: “The Glennans crisps did very well on that trial, when we met the directors we knew the product would do well, however the range did so well that we wanted to put them in all the regional stores we look after.”

Glennans director Sarah Glennan said: “It is really great to see our own brand on the shelves in local stores.

“We have produced vegetable crisps for a long time but always under other brands, so this listing gives us a bit of recognition and puts the family brand out there in the local area.”

The Glennans crisps are made with vegetables including parsnips, beetroot, sweet potato and carrots and the company has been using the same farmer for the last 19 years.

Glennans director David Glennan said: “It’s also nice for the staff here at Glennans to see the company’s own brand on the shelf here in Uttoxeter.

“We have been a big employee in this small town for over 20 years.” Since 1986 Glennans has gone from strength to strength and has now become the largest manufacturer of pan fried vegetable crisps in the UK and Europe.

Earlier this year the company announced that it was looking to recruit staff over 10 weeks due to a major growth.
