Venus deals with Dementieva threat

Venus WilliamsDefending champion Venus Williams held off a determined challenge from fifth seed Elena Dementieva to advance to her seventh Wimbledon final.

Williams blasted through the opening set of the first semi-final for the loss of just one game but was made to fight all the way in the second before sealing a 6-1 7-6 (7/3) victory.

Serena WilliamsSerena Williams reached her fourth Wimbledon final and her third against her sister Venus after wrestling aside the plucky challenge of China's Zheng Jie 6-2 7-6 (7/5) on Centre Court.

Williams produced another performance bristling with accuracy and intensity to fight past Zheng, the world number 133 who had already made history as the first player from her country to reach a grand slam semi-final.

Rainer SchuettlerRainer Schuettler held his nerve to progress into a Wimbledon semi-final against Rafael Nadal thanks to an epic victory over Arnaud Clement of France.

Resuming at 1-1 after bad light brought a premature halt to proceedings on Wednesday, the veteran pair were straight back into the groove on Thursday where Clement incredibly saved six successive set points after falling 6-0 down in the third-set tie-breaker - before losing it with a double fault, but he came back to claim the fourth.

Coulthard to quit at end of season

England were originally declared the winners after the tourists were deemed to have forfeited the match by umpires Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove. Pakistan had refused to return to the field after being accused of ball-tampering by Hair.
